Imagine two old men fighting over a sweet candy bar. You may think that these two men are acting childish, or that they don't know what to do about the situation, or that they're just crazy.
Any candy bar is not worthy of being fought over, especially between two old, life-experienced men. My god, there are lots of other candy bars arond the world. One can even find a better candy bar than that candy bar that's being fought over. Those two men are already mature, and knows well enough about how to deal with situations like that. Fighting over a piece of candy bar is a waste of time, waste of energy, and therefore, not practical.
The candy bar is like Helen of Sparta; it's not worthy of being fought over by the two old men symbolized by the two kingdoms: Troy and Mycenae (with Sparta) No matter how beautiful Helen may seem to be, she's still not worthy of being fought over in the Trojan war because of two reasons.
First, Helen is not the only woman living in the world that time. My god, if she was the only woman living in the world, then the "act" of war is understandable (at least for me). But there were in fact a lot of women living during that period. And maybe, who knows, one of them may be better than Helen.
Secondly, the act was not practical. My god, they sacrificed a lot of lives just to get Helen back. They wasted their time fighting; knowing that in the end they would still die. They could have done other alternatives to get Helen. The two kingdoms, knowing that they have their advisers, beliefs, experiences, gods, and all, could have just allowed themselves to THINK first, and compromise over the matter. And who knows? After compromising, both kingdoms could establish a deal, and therefore no one would get hurt nor die.
See? it's all about being practical. No matter how sweet and tasty a candy bar may be, it is still not worthy of being fought over--especially by two old wise and experienced men.
